Alien Pong Trilogy II (Author: Gareth Griffiths) |
---|
This game is not what you would call good. In fact, it is not what you would call average either. It is indeed on the crap side
of things. It can still be a good laugh, especially if you are a bit drunk and don't want to partake in a mind-taxing game of
Worms. It was reviewed in AF102. The game itself is a direct spinoff of Nolan Bushnells 1979 game Pong. The only difference really is the plot behind it, and the power ups, custom background graphics, background graphics, and the deflector walls. You may not like this game, but then again, you may like it. It was Joker Developments second release, so don't keep your expectations high! |
Reservoir Dogz (Author: Gareth Griffiths) |

Finished at the end of January, Reservoir Dogz is based on the film 'Reservoir Dogs' from Quentin Tarantino
and Dog Eat Dog Productions. The difference here is that you are a baddie, and
you must kill all the cops on a level before you proceed to the next. There
are 5 levels in total. Of course, you are armed with a trusty pistol (complete with unlimited ammo) and this is the weapon of choice when it comes to dispensing blood and death in the eyes of the coppers. The coppers are also armed, as you may expect, and they DO shoot back. One thing different to most games of this sort, they can actually miss! This is NOT a bug, it is intentional. They get more accurate and have faster firing times as you progress through the game. |
Shoot Out (Author: Gareth Griffiths) |
---|
This game was reviewed in AF103, a month after Alien Pong Trilogy II. It was judged to be "a fine cat and mouse affair" and received quite a
good verdict. The game requires you to take control of a small spacecraft, and
a friend does the same (with a different ship obviously). It is then a battle
to the death. You have just lasers at your disposal, and you must traverse the
vertical plane of the battle arena, firing the aforementioned weapon. If you
hit the other craft, then they lose a life. The other player is trying to do
the same to you though, so you have to watch out in case you run into their
laser fire. This is quite a good game, but the vastly improved Shoot Out II is
more fun. |
Shoot Out II (Author: Gareth Griffiths) |
---|
This is the sequel to Shoot Out, and is greatly improved. The deflectors from
Alien Pong Trilogy 2 make an appearance, as do the bonus icons (fancy freezing
your opponent, allowing you to get a free shot? Rightho!) An armour system is
also employed, increasing the longevity of a single game. Another improvement
is the mothership option. This basically means one extra craft, but it is only
available when you lose your fighter craft. This big craft comes with 10
armour points, as well as dual lasers, capable of taking 2 armour points from
the enemy in one shot. Reviewed in AF107, this was described as "fun for a
short while, but not a game to keep you playing for days" and "all it lacks is
a one player mode" which I find difficult to accomplish using AMOS. Who knows.
Maybe I'll convert it to Blitz some day. |
